Reveals - Femslashex 2017

gayporwaveHiya! This is very late and also my first time writing one of these things BUT I figured, why not?
Next year I think I'll add a bit more prompts/story ideas, I sort of struggled with think about what exactly I wanted.
I requested The Adventure Zone (Julup and Lupcretia), Shadowrun: Hong Kong (Is0bet), Overwatch (Mei/Zarya and Ana/Mercy), and Dream Daddy (F!OC/Mary).
I received a lovely Dream Daddy fic, city slicker by sunfish.
Admittedly I shook way before reveals and laughed because, haha, I wrote a Dream Daddy F!OC/Mary fic too! Overall, I absolutely loved the fic I got it was hot and very very cute especially the bit about the OC having the same name as Mary and not being from the city.
Really, I'm happy with any fic where Mary get's away from her marriage with Joseph. The two of them deserve to be happy honestly! I was really sort of happy to see how their story differed from mine and how we had two totally different stories from similar prompts.
Onto things I wrote:
Odessa, said Dream Daddy fic that I wrote for RowynSN. The title is from Caribou's song which can be listened to here [x]. (I actually mostly listened to this really lovely cover by Owen Pallet which can be found here [x]) The lyrics are pretty applicable to Mary and her situation with Joseph which is why I chose it specifically for the fic name.
This was the longest fic I'd written before I started my other F/F story, I just started with the idea of Mary meeting someone at the bar and worked from there. Then I thought, how exactly would Mary loosen up enough to let herself get involved with a woman? Which is where weed came in sort of, another part was me being disappointed that we didn't get to smoke weed with Mary in the actual game. I would have loved to smoke a fat joint with her, tbh. I sort of struggled with the OC because I didn't want to make her too much of a character since this was a PWP essentially but I wanted a character that Mary could connect to even if it was on a shallow level. So I had her be a divorcee and have her be more normal in contrast to everything that's happening with Mary.
As I mentioned in the author's note I was also totally inspired by a film I watched called "Fun Mom Dinner", where in the beginning one of the mom's locks herself in the bathroom with a wineglass and a joint to get away from her kids as they're playing. Coincidentally she also has four blonde kids and it reminded me A LOT of something that Mary would totally do.
I really really had fun with this story and I'm still proud of it, I do want to maybe do a continuation where Mary starts dating Javiera and her divorce actually does happen. I'll probably start working on it soon once I'm finished working on my Yuletide story, finish my Lupcretia story, and get more written on my WIP Origfic.
It's on the back burner but I'm not not writing it by any means.
I also wrote Can't Live With The World, a Julia/Lup fic for lightrises. The title is from a really really lovely Laura Mvula song which I discovered through a bit of Julia/Lup fanart that inspired the fic: [x] (the song), [x] (the fanart, I absolutely love the artist's other work check it out!)
I picked this up from the pinch hit list because: 1) it had been lingering a bit and 2) I absolutely love Julia/Lup and wanted to write a story for them. I had originally drafted some of this story for a drabble before fixing it up and expanding it. I love the idea of a Tres Horny Girl AU, I think TAZ as a story really lacked in the woman department and as an AU it brings women front and center even though it's just a fanfic AU. I like to write a Lup where although she is still herself, she has changed due to what's happened and missing her brother. She's still kind but she's a lot more reserved and Taako serves as her balance in more than one way. She tends to hide her feelings when upset not to bother people and pushes people away because she likes to present herself as a positive person always even to her detriment. (Julia knows this and it's why I wrote her reaching out to Lup and tried to show that she also has feelings too. Lup can rely on her as much as she relies on Lup.)
Julia is a big blank slate character and while I didn't have much writing in order to convey her character I do hope that what I was trying to do came across. I don't really like Magnus' backstory in TAZ proper (please for the love of god, no more fridged wive's as manpain motivation) so I personally rather avoid the subject of him in THG AUs. For Julia my version of her is a woman who is strong but emotionally damaged, she's similar to Lup where she treats her friends as people she wants and needs to protect, but is hesitant to show herself as vulnerable and occasionally in need of protection/comfort. She has a big heart AND big muscles.
I really liked writing such an emotionally charged piece where it's sort of sad and emotional but very tender with the two of them dancing. I imagine that Julia and Lup's romance isn't easy, neither are really ready to love or admit they're in love but it's obvious to anyone who looks at how they interact. (Poor, poor Hecuba)
I included the bit with TSC because I really really like the trope of them finding each other and falling in love all over again/"the heart remembers even though the mind does not" because I'm a giant romantic sap. A sweet 100+ year romance is lovely, okay!
