Reveals - Trick or Treat 2017

Author reveals are finally here! I wrote a lot for this exchange, there were a lot of really lovely prompts that captureed my attention, but first I'll talk about my gifts.

I got two of them and one was my very first treat that I've received for an exchange. So so exciting! I was so proud of everyone that we actually managed to get two gifts for every participant.

Both gifts were for the Genghis Khan video by Miiike Snow (here [x]), for those not familiar it's a very cute video that's a James Bond parody in which a secret agent (Not!James Bond) is captured by a villain with a gold nose. Said villain Gold Nose is actually in love with Not!James Bond and wonders whether or not he should kill him, complete with dancing and singing. Eventually he lets Not!James Bond go, is sad because Not!James Bond probably doesn't love him and then, surprise! Not!James Bond loves him back and we get a really cute sequence of gay dancing followed by them now living together and then another surprise at the end where Gold Nose's ex-wife is out for revenge.

It's an adorable video, really.


I received this lovely fic Quips, by Missy. It was absolutely adorable and everything that I had wanted out of the prompt. The beginning where Hans warns Greta to stay away from a certain house because Hans stills has some enemies was a super cute touch. She has a princess costume! (I can imagine how many situations they've gotten into where some colleague thinks he can just kidnap Hans' children, not while John is here.)

I loved their banter, the two of them are so sweet even as they're teasing each other and then Tara showing up was the icing on the cake! "Her turn doesn't start until next week." Too funny.

The other story I received was Care, by Mossy_Birch. I also loved loved loved this one, it's an immediately pre-canon fic where Gold Nose is taking care of Secret Agent as he lies strapped to the table that Gold Nose has a laser pointed down on. Gold Nose pretending that he totally doesn't have any feelings for Secret Agent, none at all nope, while doing things no other villain would do was adorable. (What villain gives his arch-nemesis food and a glass of water plus bathroom breaks Gold Nose!) That he has to make up petty excuses to justify his behavior makes it even funnier.

Gold Nose feeling "oddly uncomfortable" was great too, and the little bit about him being a good boss to his underlings.

What a spectacular fic.

Now things I've written:

What Soulmates Will Look Like In The Future, a 17776 genfic soulmate/red string of fate AU featuring all of the probes for Eluvia. I didn't use my usual title formula which is "find a song that vaguely fits the characters", this time.

I actually wrote this treat super super early because I had just been so inspired by the prompt. It was strange but then I thought, so is the rest of the lore for this world. How could I write this believably? Then I started writing from the perspective of Nine who would naturally be the one to prompt an explanation of strange phenomena that they would be unfamiliar with.

I sort of waffled on whether or not to include the actual picture of two people and their red strings but I figured it would make a good lead in especially since Juice could make fun of Nine for their camera again.

Part of a big appeal of 17776, in my opinion, is the feeling of the narrative never trying to justify itself. The plot/happenings simply exist and everything is just taken for granted as happening which is what I wanted to try to capture the appeal of. That the red strings were now a mundane thing, as mundane as immortality. I thought that linking it to the new emergence of immortality would be interesting.

Then I thought, what would the probes think of them? For Juice, I thought he'd largely be uninterested/unimpressed. Soulmates aren't things for satellites and they're not that humorous or interesting to keep his attention.

Now, Ten. Ten I thought would be interested in them, not because she's really interested in romance but more how humans react to them. She has a detached view of humanity, she finds them fascinating and loves them but she doesn't have any interest in romance. She likes to consume media about them because of how interesting she finds the many different ways humanity reacts to such a thing fascinating. I hope that it did come off as what I was trying to write.

I think that Nine, being a baby basically, has no idea what to think exactly. But after some time I'm sure they'll have an opinion sooner or later, or maybe not? Who knows.

It was all in all a very fun fic to write.

Witching Hour, an Overwatch fic for hyenateeth featuring Witch!Mercy and Drider!Widowmaker.

Originally, I had actually picked this up from the PH list because I'd planned to write some Sloane/Hurley psychological horror fic. However, I saw their Widowmaker/Mercy prompts and was inspired to write something with the two. I had actually wanted to take it into a porny direction but it wasn't coming out quite right so I decided to write what would be the sort of "origin" story for the two of them.

I took some mild inspiration from D&D lore, particularly that driders are not born but are creatures created from being cursed and applied it to Widowmaker. I didn't elaborate exactly on how Widowmaker was cursed but my general idea is that it had something to do with Gerard.

I just really liked the idea of this evil witch who has a giant monstrous spider girlfriend at her beck and call. Witch!Mercy tries not to show it but she loves Widowmaker in her own twisted witchy way. I had a lot of fun with it and its another exchange fic that I'd like to write another chapter for.

Someone else also wrote a lovely Widowmaker/Mercy story for the same person that took it in an entirely different direction, I really liked their fic: The Witch of Eichenwalde

Uneasy, a John/Merle fic for neonkatze.

I was actually super surprised to see this was popular among my fics!

I really really love John/Merle and was excited to write something a bit sinister between the two for ToT. John loves his mindgames and views Merle less as a person but more an obstacle to understand, overcome, and consume. I wanted to write something that was a bit of a "missing scene", a parley that could have potentially happened. I think my John is probably a little more sinister than in canon but I really liked the way he came off and how Merle did as well.

I wrote Merle as absolutely just so confused about whether John was being serious or this was another powerplay/game of his in addition to his chess. He's definitely attracted to John, stupid sexy John, but has absolutely no idea what to do with this. (It's not like he can tell any of the I.P.R.E)

I had a blast writing this one, the world needs more John/Merle!

Chork Tingle and Small Signs, two Shadowrun: Hong Kong fics that I wrote for Vintar.

The first is basically a shitpost in fanfic format that I wrote based on my favorite thread. I just absolutely loved the idea of Is0bel trying to take care of Gobbet's rats for her and just...not doing so great. But she tries, oh does she try for her girlfriend! Gobbet knows Is0bel tries her best and loves her for it.

The second was my stab at five times fic format, which is a format I really really liked. I loved the prompt of Gobbet trying to woe Is0bel and Is0bel just being oblivious because Gobbet's attempts are...weird, to say the least. I wanted it to be sort of funny with Gobbet bringing her shinies since Rat, being well a Rat, probably suggested it and Rat has never steered Gobbet wrong so far. (Except for those couple of times but who's counting, huh?)

They're both such great characters and I love that they're both funny in canon and have emotional depth. With how both of them aren't so great at emotions but try their best anyway.

Writing both of them was really fun and I'm happy to contribute to the tiny number of fics.

New Person, Same Old Mistakes, last but not least a Shadowrun: Dragonfall fic for palmedfire.

Glory is my favorite character in Dragonfall so I was excited to write a small little treat for her. The prompt mentioned wanting something involving Glory first getting her cyberarms and I thought a little scene of when Glory mentioned getting her arms and having a street doc (people who usually never say no) trying to dissuade her.

I had a lot of fun writing this especially since Glory's headspace was interesting to get into, the pain and desperation she feels to get new cyberware to dull her emotions and make it so she can't cast magic again and can never hurt another soul was so interesting to think about and write. I absolutely love the Shadowrun universe and the scenarios you can write for it.
